What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is naturally produced in the liver and is absorbed from foods which passes through the intentines.
What is LDL and HDL?
LDL is the bad part of cholesterol. It contributes to plaque buildup which can clog arteries, cause heart attacks, and strokes. HDL i sthe good part of cholesterol. It helps remove LDL from veins and arteries.
Functions of Cholesterol with LDL and HDL
LDL and HDL play a huge role in cholesterol. There are two types of lipproteins in your body that carry cholesterol. They both play a role in transfering cholesterol in your body but have different structures and functions on how they do that. LDL is low-density and HDL is high density. LDL contains 50% of its weight in cholesterol and the other 25% in protein. On the other hand, HDL contains 20% of its weight in cholesterol and the other 50% in protein. Their structures are the exact oppsite. The functions of LDL is they are the priamary carriers of cholesterol and HDL is the primary carriers of proteins. LDL causes cholesterol to buildup and block the arteries, while HDL benefits your health where particles drag and carry cholesterol out of your heart and back into the liver where it belongs.
